Nick Nurse Calls Out Team – Raptors Win 113 to 104 Against Suns

Nick Nurse calls out his team and the Raptors respond by beating the Phoenix Suns 119 to 106 on Saturday. The previous night, the Memphis Grizzlies dominated that Raptors and defeated them 119 to 106. In that game, the Raptors lacked effort and could not match Memphis’ physicality. The resulting loss had many questioning if the Raptors should tank the season or not. However, the win helped calm some of those fears a little bit but questions remain. What are these questions?

Nick Nurse Calls Out Team – Questions About the Team

From my own observations and what I have seen online, the biggest question about this team is if the current core players are good enough to compete for a title in near future? This is the biggest question that needs to be answered as this will dictate the direction of the team. For example, if they feel that the core is not good enough, then there could be some big trades at the deadline to get picks and young talent. The core would then be centered around Scottie Barnes with the goal of competing in the longer term. However, if management believes in this current core (Siakam, Anunoby, and Van Fleet), then they have to make some moves to enhance the team. In particular perhaps getting a quality rim protector, another playmaker and more shooting.

Other questions that people been asking are as follows: does vision six nine work for a team? Does Nick Nurse’s defensive schemes still work or have teams figured him out? Why does Nick Nurse play his starters so much and not develop his bench? Why has been no development in offensive schemes? These and other questions people been asking but all take a back seat to the first question as that is the most important one. So why have the Raptors’ management not done anything yet?

Nick Nurse Call out Team – Management Still Trying to Figure the Direction Out

In a nutshell, that Raptors management are not sure yet. The reasons for this stems mostly from injuries. Otto Porter Jr. was suppose to provide three point shooting and bench scoring but he has been injured most of the year. Precious Achiuwa was looked to be potentially the starting center and the rim protector for the team. However, he has been injured for the last month or so. These two players have kind of put management in a holding pattern. They would like to see how the team looks with these players back in the line up and then go from there.

Conclusion

Precious Achiuwa should be back shortly and Otto Porter Jr. should be back in a couple weeks. If the team can be competitive and get close to 500 in this month, then they might still with the current core. However, if things go badly and they lose a lot of games this month, then it might be a time for a rebuild. This month will be paramount on deciding which way the Raptors will go. Tonight they play the Indiana Pacers. Hopefully Precious Achiuwa is back and management can really start evaluating as the clock is ticking. Go Raptors!
